About Woodstock Music & Art Fair
The Woodstock Music & Art Fair was held August 15-18, 1969 on a dairy farm in Bethel, New York. The official Woodstock history says more than half a million people came to hear 32 acts over four days.
HOW IT DEVELOPED
Event History
Woodstock became one of the defining music and counterculture events of the 1960s. Its official history identifies Artie Kornfeld, Michael Lang, John Roberts and Joel Rosenman as the producers.
WHY HERE
Location History
The festival was not originally planned for Bethel. New York State Police records say promoters had expected to stage it in Wallkill, but court action forced a site change about three weeks before the festival. The Bethel farm became the replacement location.
